Did you know that Pokemon Go was created by Niactin, which was founded by John Hanke, the CEO of Keyhole, which is funded by In-Q-Tel, the venture capital firm of the CIA? Now you do. You really do have to catch them all.
Hello everyone! It’s been several years since I sent out a newsletter, but my upcoming exodus from Twitter (which will permanently cut me off from social media) brought me back to this semi-longform content. If you can’t remember why you signed up for this, I wrote a few weird books and started a publishing house called Broken River Books. At some point you probably read one of those and decided to sign up for my newsletter (which I migrated over to SubStack).
I lived down in El Paso for a few years, teaching kids about archeology and farming, then COVID tanked that job, so I moved back to Oklahoma. I now live next to a mental hospital which is rumored to have been built on the grounds of an ancient battle between Atlanteans and giants. Not making that up, although perhaps someone is. There are entire Discord servers and whisper networks devoted to exposing museum coverups and giant skeletons unearthed just a five minute walk from where I live with my wife.
And we’re expecting! Rios is about halfway through her pregnancy. I am becoming more and more excited about becoming a father. That spurred my exit from social media. You ever see an old grandpa with a PBR in hand, screaming at FOX News? Substitute the TV for a Twitter screen and that would be me. Who wants to be that dad? Or grandpa, for that matter?
No, I figure I’m the type of dude that will spend a lot of time in a garage, making stuff and minding my own business. Here’s a great video I found on how to whittle a wood spirit.
Here is a piece I wrote for Nicolas Winding Refn’s website. It’s about tornadoes, giant squids, and dirt magick. I’m a big fan of his movies, so I was pleased to find out that he loved this piece.
Here is a podcast I’ve been working on with Kris Saknussemm. Kris is one of my favorite writers, and he’s a wild man with a million stories. The podcast is a fun exploration of animism and art, the paranormal and philosophy. It quickly doubled the normal downloads I get for a podcast, and now Kris and I are getting emails from listeners all over the world. Even in Africa, which is pretty cool.
I went on my favorite podcast, Rune Soup.
Here’s a review I did of one of my favorite books of the year, Alice Knott by Blake Butler.

Hope that keeps you busy for quite some time. I will have time on my hands, now that Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are no more. I have nothing else to do but be productive. Maybe go outside and buy a burrito. Read a book.
Frightening stuff.
Be well.
I didn't realize it'd been years since the last newsletter! Time escapes me when when doomscrolling. You made a good choice. Looking forward to more - stay blessed.
